The girls of Olympia High School became the first Orlando-area team to win Florida’s high school water polo champions on Saturday. They completed a perfect season defeating traditional power Gulliver Prep of Miami 7-4 to become their area’s sole titleist since the FHSAA sanctioned water polo playoffs 13 years ago. The Titans ended the season with 31 wins and no losses.
Ransom Everglades dominated Winter Park in the boys’ final, winning 14-4, earning the Raiders their first state championship since 2008. sport in 13 years of FHSAA playoffs.
Ransom’s boys watched their female counterparts win seven of the previous eight state titles, without being able to win one of their own.
The Raiders changed that quickly Saturday with an offensive barrage that put the game out of reach by halftime.
