The biggest increase in the number of men’s varsity intercollegiate water polo programs for many years is under way beginning this weekend. Three new programs will kick off their seasons at the Navy Open in Annapolis, Maryland and the Bruno Classic at Brown University in Rhode Island beginning on Saturday. The new Division I team from La Salle University from Philadelphia will take on Division II addition McKendree of Lebanon, Illinois at Navy. New York’s Wagner College, who are joining the Division I ranks, is scheduled against Brown at their Bruno Tourney opener.

Men’s Water Polo Team Eager to Open Inaugural Season

[hr style=”striped”]The new teams have prompted a re-organization of the Collegiate Water Polo Association. La Salle has been placed in the West Region of the new Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference. The powerful East Region is home to the team from Wagner. McKendree begins its inaugural season as a CWPA club but is expected to gain NCAA status in 2017.
