WATCH: The Goalie Changing the Face of American Water Polo

The glow has barely subsided for the gold medalist U.S. Women’s Water Polo team, a young outfit that appears poised to dominate the global game for the foreseeable future.

Credit a good deal of the optimism to Ashleigh Johnson, who has received outsize press attention ever since eschewing a California collegiate education for an Ivy League one, and now garners the title of Most Valuable Goalkeeper at the Rio Olympics.

The “goalie changing the face” of water polo, as Time puts it, could be fronting a dramatic change in the American game on racial and geographic lines. She’s also just very good.
