A moonshot in to the stands has cost U.S attacker Alex Bowen the chance to face Italy in what is likely to be the men’s water polo team’s last game of the Rio Olympics. Bowen tossed the ball in to the crowd out of frustration after a final Montenegro goal in its physical 8-5 victory over Team USA on Friday.

U.S. attacker Alex Bowen will not play in the country’s last men’s water polo game in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics due to “unsporting conduct,” according to FINA…

Center defender Alex Roelse will also sit out after receiving a brutality penalty in the Montenegro match. The foul resulted in Team USA playing a man short for four minutes, during which the Balkans pulled away. Assistant Coach Jack Kocur received a red card during Friday’s events and will sit out the Italy game.

The U.S. resides in fifth place in Group B and will not advance past the group stage.
