A member of the Marist water polo team has died in a car crash in northwest Ohio.
Courtney Fisher, 19, was a passenger in a van carrying Thomas Worthington HS athletes to a northwest Ohio water polo match. Officials say the van pulled in front of a tractor trailer after which the vehicles collided and came to rest in a ditch.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Courtney appeared in 10 games during her freshman season. She scored three goals, had one steal, and one field block after joining the team as a walk-on. Known as an outstanding student, Courtney was a Biomedical Sciences major who was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll following the 2015-16 academic year.
Four girls from the high school team suffered life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to nearby hospitals. The truck’s driver was not hurt.
