Team USA women’s water polo made quick work of 2012 silver medalists Spain in their opening round Olympic match in Rio on Tuesday. Six different athletes scored seven times in the first half to barge to a 7-2 lead. The Americans finished the game with an 11-4 win.
Head Coach Adam Krikorian addressed for the first time the death of his brother which took place last week. Blake Krikorian succumbed after a paddle boarding session near San Francisco on August 4. Coach Krikorian flew home to Southern California to be with his family after the family tragedy.
…Krikorian choked back tears as he described his whirlwind week after the death of one of his two older brothers… He says he feels for his brother’s wife and two children, and the support from his players helped lift him up.
The U.S. continues its Olympic title defense on Thursday when they meet China, coached by former USA Men’s National Team Head Coach Ricardo Azevedo.
