Nevada’s Peila Gets Olympic Officiating Call | Review-Journal

Joseph Peila has risen up the water polo officiating ranks and has achieved the rare honor of pocketing an invitation to the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Henderson, Nevada resident will be the lone US referee among the 24 that will whistle the games beginning on August 3rd in Brazil.

The former Cal State LA player dishes out more secrets from the sidelines in this feature from the hometown daily.

The deck is where the referee stands. It is where Joe Peila will be pacing during water polo matches that do not involve the U.S. teams, or any nations in the U.S. brackets. He said it is his great hope that political winds do not blow (and that mosquitoes do not bite) at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium.
