As Indiana Head Coach Barry King wrote in his resignation submitted today “…a three-year experiment became a 19-year odyssey.” After nearly two decades Barry King is stepping down as head coach of the Hoosiers. He led IU to six national championship tournaments and one Final Four in 2003.
BLOOMINGTON, – Ind. – Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass announced today that he has accepted the resignation of Barry King as IU’s head women’s water polo coach. King served 19 seasons as head coach after helping make women’s water polo a varsity sport in 1998.
The women’s head coaching position in Bloomington is one of the most coveted in all of intercollegiate water polo, and King’s resignation will prompt a deluge of applications by highly regarded coaches according to one insider.
Indiana finished the 2016 season with a record of 23-7. They lost to arch-rivals Michigan 9-2 in the CWPA Championship match.
