Jon Bonafede Hired as Caltech Water Polo Head Coach

Jon Bonefede is the new head coach at Caltech. He takes over both the men’s and women’s varsity teams after Pat Beemer’s departure in June.

UC Santa Barbara graduate Bonafede spent four years playing goalkeeper professionally in Australia’s National Water Polo League. In 2011, be both played for Melbourne’s men’s team and coached the club’s women’s team to a runner-up finish in the National League Championships.

Bonafede has logged coaching time with the girls water polo team at the Marlborough School in Hancock Park, CA, the Chino Hills Area Water Polo Club (CHAWP) and spent several seasons as an assistant coach with the women’s team at Pasadena City College in Pasadena, CA.

The former Gaucho goalie was Santa Barbara’s MVP in 2004 and an All-MPSF player. Prior to his time in Goleta he spent two seasons at Mt. San Antonio College where he earned All-State and Community College All-American honors. He was twice an All-CIF Southern Section athlete at Upland High School in Upland, CA.
