LOS ANGELES — Chris Lee, who has been an assistant women’s water polo coach with NCAA Division I California-Berkeley since 2012, will take the reigns of the Occidental men’s and women’s water polo programs as the head coach of both teams, Oxy athletic director Jaime Hoffman announced on Monday.

Lee began his coaching career with a tremendous amount of success coaching the University of Pennsylvania’s club programs from 2000-2008, leading the women to four Mid-Atlantic Division Championships and the men to one. He was named a Mid-Atlantic Division Coach of the Year six times.

“(Lee’s) professionalism and experience in winning, coaching and recruiting at the highest levels are a welcomed addition to our athletic department,” Hoffman said. “We are excited to have him at the helm leading our program to new heights.”

After his tenure at Pennsylvania, Lee spent three seasons as an assistant coach at SCIAC rival Pomona-Pitzer, working with the men’s and women’s teams. He’s also been an assistant coach for the USA Women’s Cadet National Team since 2011.

“I’d like to thank Jaime Hoffman and everyone involved in the search committee for giving me the opportunity to be the next coach of the men’s and women’s water polo programs here at Occidental College,” Lee said. “I have always respected the incredible academic reputation of the college and feel fortunate to be able to combine that with a water polo program with such a long and storied history. I look forward to working with the student athletes and getting a chance to be a part of the Occidental community.”

Lee graduated from Pennsylvania with a BA in Applied Science in 2004 and a Master’s in Architecture in 2008.
