WATCH: Cal Breaks Ground on New Aquatics Facility

Completed in 1982 the Speiker Aquatics Center has been home to the top-notch water polo and swimming programs at Cal Berkeley for over 30 years in addition to serving the rest of the school’s 36,000 students. That arrangement will end in 2016 when the California Aquatic Center is completed. The school broke ground last week on the new facility which will serve as the exclusive training and competition pool for the highly successful aquatics programs at the university.

Men’s water polo head coach Kirk Everest, and former women’s standout and Olympian Heather Petri were there to stab the ceremonial pile of dirt and comment on the big upgrade.
