USA Women Roll On over Canada at World League

USA Women Kunshan Champs 2015 facebook

It was a high-scoring game but Italy held on to beat Russia on day 2 of the women’s World League Super Final 14-12 despite remaining scoreless in the final quarter where the Russian women looked for a comeback. Four goals in three quarters for Teresa Frassinetti looked to boost the Italians to a clear victory as they took control in the third period gaining a 14-9 advantage. But Russia came back in the final session where they scored three unanswered goals but could not overcome the deficit as the 2012 European champions held on to win 14-12, their second in group A. And together with Australia who topped China 10-5 in a solid performance for their second straight victory to set up a big meeting with the Italian team on Thursday for the top spot in the group. Meanwhile in group B defending champions USA marched on, this time beating arch rivals Canada 9-3 in convincing fashion to lead the group after two of the three group stage rounds. Netherlands took second place by beating Brazil 13-5. Captain Yasemin Smit led the way on offense scoring three goals for the Dutch who trailed 1-2 at quarter-time but took over from there and never looked back.
