Water polo continues its progress in Utah. The state crowned six high school champions at the end of May with among the highest participation rates ever. The girls of Herriman High School earned a 5a title while the boys finished in the top four. The sport has had a long history in Utah; Kearns has dominated competition and once again won both the boys’ and girls’ titles, this year at the 4a division.
No official state sanction yet for the sport from the Utah High School Activities Association but this year’s participation numbers could help begin that conversation. More on Herriman’s seaons from PrepsUtah.
Still swimming under the radar, water polo is making waves in many Utah communities despite being on the outside looking in when it comes to acceptance from the Utah High School Activities Association.
