The experiment in Ohio varsity water polo is over, at least for now. Eight months after discontinuing their men’s program, Notre Dame College has announced the immediate termination of the women’s team, according to the CWPA.
The school announced the addition of the first varsity intercollegiate programs in the state of Ohio in December of 2009. Former Athletic Director Sue Hlavacek said at the time, “We have a wonderful facility, and [former coach Brad Silver] is the right coach to recruit talented student-athletes and build a quality program.” Hlavacek has since left the college and was replaced by Scott Swain in 2012.
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Notre Dame College Department of Athletics has informed the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) of its decision to immediately eliminate women’s water polo as a varsity sport at the college.
