Kostas Genidounias, USC’s leading scorer in 2013, had not failed to score in a game for over a year. UCLA came to Uytengsu Aquatic Center on Sunday and found the key to shutting out the Greek sniper in front of a packed stadium. The Bruins returned to Westwood with a 10-8 win and an undefeated record within the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. UCLA has three games remaining against UC Davis, Pacific, and resurgent Long Beach State putting them in position to end the conference season without a loss.
The big win will very likely keep the Bruins atop the men’s varsity rankings when released on Wednesday, providing some stability to the weekly poll. A different No. 1 team has occupied that spot for each of the past four weeks.
The MPSF tournament begins on November 21.
