USA Water Polo’s Director of Club and Member Services, Claudia Dodson, has launched an online petition (included below) in support of adding water polo as an officially sanctioned high school sport in Texas. The state’s University Interscholastic League (UIL) oversees interscholastic sports among the its huge roster of public schools. The body’s Legislative Council delayed a decision on adding the sport in June by asking for a survey of potential competitors to be completed first. A final decision on the matter could come as early as November.
If added, the sport would be the first addition to the UIL’s sports offerings since wrestling was promoted in 1998. High school water polo has been played in the state since 1972 under the auspices of the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches association (TISCA).
