Jesse Smith returned to Team USA’s Senior Men’s squad and earned Defensive Player of the Tournament honors as the young Americans finished fourth at the recently concluded FINA Men’s World Cup Championships in Kazakhstan. Bret Bonanni ended the competition as its top goal scorer.
In their last match the American men could not overcome a tough shooting performance – 4/11 in man-up situations – against bronze medalists Croatia. Alex Bowen scored twice in the 6-8 loss to the defending Olympic champions. Smith, Nolan McConnell, Alex Obert, and recent high school grad Luca Cupido each tossed in one goal.
A hiatus now for the Senior Men’s Team as the US collegiate season will begin in early September and wind up with NCAA Championships in December.
