The Dallas Morning News’ Corbett Smith tweeted today that it would be a “long shot” for water polo to be officially sanctioned as a prep sport in Texas after today’s proceedings at the UIL Legislative Council Meeting.
@TotalWaterpolo Think they are going to poll supts “if added, would your school participate?” Even so, I think it’s a long shot for addition

The University Interscholastic League oversees most of high school sports in the state and is considering adding the sport to its offerings along with bowling and game day cheer. The body decided today to survey superintendents throughout the state for a tally of schools that would participate if water polo were offered. That decision has raised hopes among supporters by at least deferring an outright rejection of the sport, a fate suffered by bowling which was voted down by an 87% margin this afternoon.
Still Smith remains less than optimistic about water polo reasoning that superintendents “haven’t wanted to add sports for a while.”
