Cathedral Catholic Ends Mater Dei’s Epic Win Streak

The Dons of Cathedral Catholic did what no other team has been able to do for over 100 games when they defeated Santa Ana’s Mater Dei, 8-7, Saturday afternoon in Del Mar. The top-rated squad from San Diego County, along with Studio City’s Harvard-Westlake, were considered among the most likely to challenge Mater Dei’s streak at the start of the 2013 fall season.

Earlier this week the Monarchs had extended their streak to 105 matches by defeating St. John Bosco on Nov. 6. Mater Dei set the CIF record in 2011 when they won their 46th game in a row. Since then they have more than doubled that mark.

Prior to today’s Mater Dei’s last loss was in 2010.
