UPDATE: Clarification and Correction Regarding Search for USMNT Coach

Sources have confirmed that there are four final candidates for the USA Men’s National Team head coaching position: two Americans and two Europeans. Multiple people with knowledge of the process have confirmed that former Serbian National Team head coach Dejan Udovicic, and former Italian Olympian and current former Posillipo head coach Carlo Silipo are the two Europeans under final consideration.

The two American finalists, according to those sources, are UCLA Men’s Head Coach Adam Wright, and Long Beach State Head Coach Gavin Arroyo.

TWp erroneously reported yesterday that the Hungarian legend Zoltan Kasas, and Montenegro Men’s National Team Coach Ranko Perovic were finalists for the position. Olympic Club men’s coach Bruce Watson was apparently interviewed but is not in the running.

USA Water Polo officials recently traveled to Frankfurt, Germany to conduct as many as 10 interviews of European candidates, which included former Montenegro head coach Petar Porobic. The similar surnames of the two most recent Montenegrin coaches, Perovic and Porobic, led to confusion about which was being interviewed.

All four finalists for the job have been or will be interviewed by USA Water Polo leadership in Southern California, and by board members in New York. The organization hopes to announce a decision by next week.
