SWIMMING WORLD — A relatively calm weekend of collegiate action is complete and Swimming World provides the highlights in its Water Polo Wednesday feature, leading with UCLA’s three-goal win over the Anteaters of UC Irvine last Saturday. That win puts the Bruins at 13-1 for the season as they head to this coming weekend’s huge tournament hosted by the Anteaters.
Other highlights include USC’s bludgeoning of the competition at Cal Baptist’s Lancer Invite, UC Davis going undefeated at its own tourney, and the Bison Invitational at Princeton. One of the most interesting results there was Princeton’s loss to Indiana, 4-2, after a blistering 5-1 start to the season. The Tigers took down Hartwick 7-6 in another anticipated match.
CWPA — Week five of the women’s varsity collegiate season ended with Stanford on top yet again, according to the Collegiate Water Polo Association poll released today. Also of interest:
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III Top 10) and Grove City College (CWPA Division III Top Five), which concluded the 2012 season on top of their respective polls continue to dominate the standings for another season of play. However, the first change at the top of a poll during the 2013 season occurs this week with Indiana University rising to No. 1 in the CWPA Division I/II Top 10.
