UCLA All-American Chris Wendt is “excited” to have fellow Fenwick alum and US National Team player Matt Farmer joining him in Westwood, he said in a text message today. News of Farmer’s decision came via Twitter and was confirmed by Wendt this morning. (Fellow Youth Team member and Loyola of Los Angeles star Chancellor Ramirez has also joined the Bruins.)
February 6 was National Signing Day, the day in February when a high school senior is first allowed to sign a binding letter of intent to play a sport at a sanctioned college.
The only Midwesterner on the roster, Farmer scored six goals for the US Men’s Youth National Team at last December’s World Championships in Perth, Australia. He will begin his final season at Fenwick on March 4, when he and the Friars will aim for their tenth Illinois state championship.Wendt and Farmer, who both trained with Windy City Water Polo in Oak Park, Illinois, were profiled together in an October 2011 piece in Oak Leaves that highlighted their Midwestern roots in a California-centric sport.
