Video Rarity in USSR vs. Hungary, 1980 Moscow Olympics

There is an ever-increasing archive of historic water polo videos available online. But this one caught our eye for a few reasons. In general, very little footage of the Moscow games, which the US boycotted, has been available. This video is a gem for that reason alone. It also features Hungarian legend Tamas Farago, considered by some to be the best player of all time, and undisputed owner of the finest mane in water polo.

The US team that was not allowed to play included some of the great names of American water polo, who missed the chance to compete against the highly regarded Soviet and Hungarian teams. On that US squad were such legends as Terry Schroeder, Kevin Robertson, Gary Figueroa, Joe Vargas, and the great goalkeeper Steve Hamann (Chris Dorst was his backup).
